An individual who spiked treats with tranquilliser and distributed them to minors at a summer program in the region has admitted sexual offences against two children both between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and a grown-up fell ill at the location in the summer month.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on late November.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, described the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She explained his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he operated.
The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She told the court the man had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She explained Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had suspicions in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.
"They chose" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel said items including infant oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were found, and his stepson alerted the authorities about his suspicions.
She stated the defendant proceeded to conduct the "treat game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that time," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
Mrs Prior explained the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the stepson notified the law enforcement again.
She stated the defendant then played the "sweet game" in a room of five minors.
