Fall Classic Final Game Draws 51 Million Viewers In the US, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The exciting extended clash where the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined 51 million watchers in the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball reported this is the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest drew over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game averaged over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English program in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-match series recorded 15.71M viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total US average reached over 16 million. The total World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged over 8 million viewers, an 8% rise compared to the previous year and the network’s strongest playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
